Planning has just been approved for High Fishergate, a £12 million new hotel scheme planned for Doncaster town centre. The proposed 122-bed hotel will be Doncaster's first business class town centre hotel and the first hotel to be built in the town for 40 years.
PRESS RELEASE - JULY 2007
Doncaster based property development company Urban-i has been confirmed as the sponsor of the prestigious new stand at Doncaster Race Course.
Urban-i is the residential arm of Lazarus Properties, one of South Yorkshire’s largest and most progressive property development companies. Darryl Barker, Director of Urban-i said: “As a Doncaster based company this is a fantastic opportunity for us.”
“Along with the new airport, the university, Frenchgate shopping centre and the new stadium, the development of the race course is another great example of Doncaster’s recent renaissance.”
“Our 5 year sponsorship of the new Urban-i stand demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the town and belief that the current boom will continue well into the future.”
Both Urban-i and Lazarus Properties have invested heavily in Doncaster in the past 10 years and are responsible for many of the town’s leading commercial and residential developments.
Lazarus Properties’ new £12 million High Fishergate development is set to become Doncaster’s first business class hotel in the town centre and the first new town centre hotel in over 40 years.
Included in the development is 25,000 sqft of retail and leisure space, which the company believes will attract leading regional and national companies to the town.
Lloyd Nicholson, Director of Lazarus Properties said: “High Fishergate is a great example of our ongoing investment in Doncaster. We have attracted a leading operator in Tulip Hotels and the development will significantly improve what the town can offer to business people, tourists, the local community and of course race goers.”
The Lazarus Properties group, including Urban-i, currently controls a property portfolio in excess of £160 million. A significant proportion of this is based in Doncaster including commercial centres such as Lazarus Court, Bradford Row and Priory Walk.
The Urban-i residential portfolio includes many of the town’s leading new developments such as Rectory Court on Mere Lane, Stone Arches at Sprotborough Road and Hamilton Lodge, which is close to the new race course stand that the company now sponsors.
In recent years Urban-i has significantly grown its development footprint with over £70 million of development underway in Yorkshire.
In 2006 Urban-i began work on i-quarter a stunning £25 million 17- storey glass tower in the heart of Sheffield. The riverside development will feature 123 apartments plus a new vibrant retail and leisure quarter. The development has proved a huge success for Urban-i, with 95% of the apartments sold off-plan and the tower set to become a new landmark in Sheffield City centre.
Building on the success of i-quarter Urban-i is continuing to grow its portfolio across South Yorkshire with two major new developments in 2007.
Middlewood Lodge is a superb £6.75 million transformation of the old administration block at the Middlewood hospital site in Sheffield. As with i-quarter the majority of Middlewood’s 38 apartments have already been sold off-plan. The Middlewood scheme also includes the restoration of the clock tower one of Sheffield’s most familiar landmarks.
Birch Park, York, is Urban-i’s largest and most ambitious project to date. Located just over a mile from the centre of historic York, the £29 million development will include 182 one and two-bedroom apartments built around a public square, with courtyards and communal gardens.
Due for completion in 2008, Birch Park, along with Middlewood and i-quarter, continues to enhance Urban-i’s reputation as one of the region’s leading and most innovative residential property developers. Michael Murray, Managing Director of Lazarus Properties said: “From the beginning myself and the co-directors have had ambitious plans for both Lazarus and Urban-i.”
“Both companies have been a huge success. Our investment portfolio now spreads throughout the UK, and I am extremely proud of what we’ve achieved.”
“However, all three directors are Doncaster born and bred and we all want to see the town prosper. What better way to show it than sponsoring one of Doncaster’s leading attractions, the race course.”
